Prior KnowledgeStudents are aware of univariate statistics in previous grades through their middle school experience. This is their first introduction to univariate statistics in the 9th grade, in terms of putting all the pieces they have learned before into other types of data compilation. In 7th grade, they are expected to already know mean, median, and mode. Box plots are another form of expressing these variables, which can make it easier to visualize the data while also introducing IQRs and outliers, if they have not seen them before.
